Summer Treats

I love making these hamburger cookies in the summer! They are perfect for a BBQ or fun summer get-together. I thought I would do a little tutorial on the blog today on how to make them.  They are relatively easy to make, but require quite a lot of materials.  Here is what you need:

1 box of Vanilla Wafers (for the bun)
24 York Peppermint Patties (for the meat)
Red frosting (for the ketchup)
Yellow frosting (for the mustard)
Coconut mixed with green food coloring (for the lettuce)
Sesame seeds
Chocolate frosting (optional)

First, put down one vanilla wafer face up and put a little frosting on top. I like to use chocolate frosting so that it blends in with the patty, but you could use the red or yellow also. Next, put the peppermint patty on top. Then you need to layer the red and yellow frosting zig-zagging back and forth.  It's okay if it is a little messy, most real hamburgers are! Next, place the green coconut on top.  Before you put on the top vanilla wafer put a little more frosting on the bottom so that it will stick on top of the coconut. Now your hamburger is almost done! Last, use your finger or a small brush to get the top wafer a little wet and sprinkle the sesame seeds on top.

I also made these watermelon cookies for the first time, and I think they are adorable to go with the hamburgers for a BBQ! You can use chocolate covered sunflower seeds for the seeds if you would like. Unfortunately, I was unable to find them so I just used frosting.  Either would work, the frosting is just a little trickier.

Thanks for reading!
