Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate Brownie Cake

I made this little cake for Zach's bday which was yesterday. Unfortunately, he came down with the flu Saturday night and he couldn't even eat it - poor guy. We'll just have to celebrate later this week!
It didn't turn out perfect, but it couldn't have been baked with more love.
It's similar to these I've made before. This peanut butter buttercream is my all-time favorite and pretty much anything with peanut butter and chocolate is my favorite. Zach prefers brownie to cake (so do I) so I decided to do a dark chocolate brownie instead of chocolate cake (but you could do cake if you want). It makes it a whole lot richer, so that's why we only needed a small cake.  To make it I just baked my favorite brownie recipe in an 8 x 8 pan and then cut out four 3.5 inch circles using pastry cutters once it cooled. Then I layered the brownie with the peanut butter buttercream
I only needed half a recipe of the buttercream. Here is the (half) recipe.

1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 1/2 tbsp. milk

I have to admit, I tried it (without Zach) and it is DELICIOUS. Enjoy!

XO,
Sarah
